Mac users can use Terminal app to SSH into iOS devices. Command Prompt on Windows does not offer such utility though. However, you can use PuTTY to SSH into iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch. It works on Windows 7 and XP or any other version of Windows for that matter.
PuTTY is a lightweight SSH client for Windows. You can download it and use SSH on Windows. Here s the guide:
SSH into iPhone / iPad using Putty
Step 1: Connect your iOS device to a WiFi network, then navigate to Settings > WiFi > tap on arrow next to the WiFi network that you are connected with. Note the IP address given there.
Step 2: Download Putty.exe: from here.
Step 3: Run Putty as administrator on the PC connected to same WiFi network.
Step 4: Enter the IP address of your iOS device in “Host Name” field and click on “Open” button. All other options like “Connection type” and “Port” should remain the same.
Step 5: PuTTY command line interface will launch. When it asks “Login as”, type root:
Step 6: Then it will ask for password, the default password is “alpine” (without quotes).
Step 7: This will authenticate the user and will log you in to SSH.
You can now run any commands as you have successfully SSH into iPhone / iPad.
